What is Line Oriented Flight Training (LOFT)? It is a training method used by the airlines and corporate flight departments as a component of recurrent training for professional pilots. LOFT sessions include a simulated routine flight during which situations requiring decisions present themselves. Some situations present relatively minor problems and some are more serious. Each situation provides a valuable opportunity for discussion and learning. |
|
Choose your airplane type. We have a wide variety of single-engine and multiengine airplanes available for your simulation. Choose an airport or area of the country. Finally, choose any combination of VFR, IFR, Day, or Night and we will create a "knock-your-socks-off" learning experience. |

Your program begins with a brief discussion of your airplane, your route, and the weather. Flight planning is completed as a group exercise. Participants take turns "flying" the simulation while the "non-flying pilots" observe the progress. Decision points are discussed as they are passed and the simulation is paused as necessary for more detailed analysis. When appropriate, the flight can be "rewound" so that the outcome of a different action can be observed.
The programs are so engaging that participants wonder where the time went!

We can keep the cost of these programs down by using simple, yet extremely effective tools. The simulation engine is Microsoft® Flight Simulator™. The "flying pilot" is seated at a station with a control yoke and throttle quadrant, in front of a large LCD monitor. The "flying pilot", along with the rest of the participants, can also view a large screen where a Powerpoint® presentation provides additional information and material for discussion.
Don't worry about being bored! Plenty of humor is included along the way. All programs also feature a visit by our copyright character, "Lester the Loser"®. |
All LOFT programs are conducted by Gene Benson, a veteran of 45 years as a pilot. Gene has accumulated more than 8,000 hours of dual-given in general aviation airplanes, has served as an instructor for a major airline, dean of an aviation college and consultant to several domestic and international airlines. He also provides CRM and other training to corporate aviation departments. He believes that humor is essential for effective learning and provides an entertaining as well as informative program.
Gene's passion is aviation safety. He serves as a Lead Representative for the FAA's FAASTeam. |

The main benefit is increased safety. Even well-trained, experienced pilots need a refresher on a regular basis. Airline and corporate pilots are certainly not strangers to this concept. LOFT training is an integral part of airline and corporate recurrent training. Insurance companies recognize the benefits of additional training and may offer premium reductions to aircraft owners who attend this training. Check with your individual insurance company.
Each participant will be issued an attractive certificate of completion. The certificate can be used as evidence of program attendance or simply framed and displayed as a statement of your commitment to safety. Additionally, the Bright Spot, Inc. LOFT programs are approved for FAA Wings credit. Click here to view credit. |
